We all want to have more money right? Well, spending less is one way of having more money on hand for other things or savings. You don't have to have a 6 figure income to travel the world. Here are my tips on travelling while on a budget and still enjoying your destination of choice.
Book your flights at least a few months in advance. If you're paying with a credit card, give yourself enough time to pay back the entire flight cost. You want to pay off your credit card before even stepping onto the flight. This will save you from the headache of having a debt to pay when you come back from travelling as well as give you a backup allowance incase of emergencies.
Book your hotel or air bnb in advance as well so you aren't stuck with the most expensive options at the last minute. I would recommend using a site like Expedia to book hotels and/or flights as you collect points that can go towards your next booking. Try booking your trip for a week or less as trips over a week usually end up costing more in every aspect. 1 week at your destination is more than enough to relax, explore and enjoy life away from home and work.
Eating out every day for every meal can add up to thousands even in just a few days. Go to local grocery stores and buy food when you arrive that you can prepare and snack on in your hotel or while out on a tour. If your hotel provides free breakfast, take advantage of that and save the extra coins.
Realistically pack the bare minimum for your trip and leave a bit of room for your souvenirs and gifts. You don't want to have to pay for an extra luggage and extra luggage costs from the airlines. Pack some dry foods in your carry on to eat on the plane so that the space can be used to bring back what you bought on your trip.
Don't buy everything you see the first day you arrive. Give yourself a day to explore the place you're visiting and you might find much better deals or gifts you can buy by waiting a day.
Trip advisor is a great free app you can download to see what to do around the area you're staying in. Do your research before leaving and note down the places or tours you'd like to see. Read the reviews as these can help you determine what activities are worth splurging for and which ones you can pass up for the next time you visit.
